Here is the welcoming committee at Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence:
We travel to Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and the Villa Borgo di Cortefreclcz, overlooking the vineyards, olive groves and rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside. The following pictures were taken at the hotel or on the stroll into town.
October 29
The first stop is San Gimiganano — famous for its tower houses.
This picture was taken from the top of the City Tower.
Lunch in Castellina:
Off to Castello di Monsanto — the highlight of the trip for some?
October 30
Off to Florence, the heart of Tuscany and the soul of the Renaissance:
The line to go up in Brunelleschi’s Dome was too long. Mary and I spent most of our free time across the river in the Giardino di Boboli. Very nice.
October 31
A rainy day in Siena:
November 1
Bye-bye Villa Borgo di Cortefreclcz and off to Lucca. Lunch here was one of the best.
The tower in the background — the next three pictures were taken from the top.
On to Carrara:
Arrive in Sestri Levante — our home for the rest of the trip:
November 2
By bus and by boat — off to Portofino:
Back for lunch in Santa Margherita:
November 3
Off to Portovenere by boat.
Passing by Vernazza — don’t worry, we will be back.
Arriving at Portovenere.
Mary and I had a coke and coffee at Bar Zvrigo.
Goodbye Portovenere.
Disembarking at Vernazza.
November 4
Mary and I spent most of our morning exploring a trail that went by the hotel pool. We went behind a monastery, through olive groves, by small villas, and up on a ridge high above the sea.
After lunch we strolled around town.
Our last night.
Goodbye to Sestri Levante and Italy.
